Lake Doxa is 170 km from Athens .It was created by damming the Doxa torrent for two maim proposes:

• Irrigation : To supply water to the crops of the fertile Feneos plateau valley .
• Flood protection : To control the water flowing down from the mountains (Chelmos and Dourdouvana0,which previously flooded the plains and destroyed agricultural production .

Today, besides its practical use,it is one of the most popular and stunning tourist destinations in the Peloponnese,resembling on Alpine landscape. Its trademark is the small chapel of Agios Fanourios,situated on a narrow strip of land (peninsula)right in the middle of the lake .
